DuPont™ NOMEX® fiber is recognized as the most durable and flame-resistant fiber on the market today. But... thanks to the inherent thickness and insulating properties that result from knitting (rather than weaving) the fire-resistant NOMEX® fibers into a soft, thick fleece, Massif Nomex® fleece is able to offer even more protection than today's typically thinner, conventionally woven NOMEX® fabrics. How much more protection? A lot more!

In laboratory tests, the following results were demonstrated:

In a DuPont™ testing facility, a conventional IIIA NOMEX® fabric suit
(6.1 oz/yd) on a laboratory mannequin exposed to a flash fire of 3.5 seconds limited predicted second-degree plus third-degree body burns to less than 35%*.

In a University of Alberta testing facility (The Textiles Technology Center, an official ISO Certified testing center used by both the military and the textile industry), Massif Nomex® fleece (7.5 oz/yd) on a laboratory mannequin exposed to 3 separate flash fire tests of 4.0 seconds each, limited body burns to less than 7%, of which less than 1% were third-degree. (In fact, in two of the three tests, there were no third-degree burns — 0% — at all!)
